Websites are basically made of two parts, the programming which governs how the website acts and the graphical design which is how the website looks. The graphical design affects the way your practice will be perceived by visitors.

Colours, shapes, fonts and images all play a part in communicating the type of practice you are. Are you a new practice that uses all the latest techniques and equipment or are you a more established practice portraying the feeling of knowledge and experience.

Its important to also bare in mind that not everyone uses the same equipment and software to look at websites. There can also be differences between people using PCs and Apple Macs. Most good Web designers will make sure your website displays correctly on all the main browsers in current use as well as previous editions of each browser which some people may still use.

It is also becoming more common for people to view websites on mobile devices such as the iPhone. Generally speaking these mobile devices will automatically change the way they display websites but by insuring your website is W3C compliant you can make sure your website displays properly on as many different devices as possible.

People also view websites on different sized monitors and at different resolutions. It is important to make sure your website display properly on a small monitor as well as larger monitors as this maximises the amount of people that can properly use your website. 93% of people viewing the internet do so on a screen with a resolution of 1024x768 or better
